So what can i say about shining song starnova? First it must be noted that the production values are great and the best yet for a game made by love in space, featuring some nice animations, movies, CG's and of course the main attraction for this game it's soundtrack. The storyline plots however are in my opinion of mixed quality. This is love in spaces largest undertaking project in terms of word count and length and the extra volume doesn't reward in some instances. The main storyline up until the choices is good giving us a little snippet of the idol world and each of the heroines and their personalities, when it comes to each of the storylines though this is when it becomes mixed imo. I wont go into details of specific storylines as this will spoil the game/visual novel for others however, i can note that i enjoyed the storylines for: Nattan, Aki, Mariya and Mika although i think the pacing was probably somewhat off for Mika's. The other storylines for Nemu, Sasami and Julie however, i did not enjoy so much. Issues with pacing, subject matter and how it was dealt with and also plausibility of some of the plot twists and the scenarios involved didn't appear convincing or alternatively brushed over significant matters trivialising some in certain aspects which if explored deeper may have led to a richer more rewarding conclusion to the individual heroines storyline. Despite some issues with certain storylines this game/visual novel is still an enjoyable experience and a nice attempt by Love in Space to attempt a different IP with some familiarity brought across from previous attempts. Is this game worth the price they charge i can't tell you honestly yes or no as i am undecided myself having backed the project, this is something i recommend you work out for yourself by trying the demo that is available. In conclusion there is enough to this game for me to give it a 7/10 mainly as a result of the production values, this isn't Love in Spaces finest work but, with a new IP teething issues can be expected and it still provides hours of entertainment regardless.. Starnova was my first visual novel experience, and I'm really thoroughly impressed. The story of the idol unit and its 7 girls (+the MC) is nothing new or unique, but it is very well done. The first couple of chapters are an intro to each character, the stakes they have in the idol industry, and the personal and professional problems that they face. Once that happens, you are presented with a menu to choose one of the 7 girls to be the center of the group (with the exception of Sasami, who must be played last). Each girl has about 4-5 hours of story (depending on reading speed and other factors), and you learn a little bit about your character (the idol group's producer) with each one. Each story arc is mostly just reading, but there are a couple of choices to be made, some of which affect the outcome and some of which just give slightly different dialogue. In the order I played the arcs, here are some quick impressions:-Mariya: Probably my favorite overall story. I picked her first because she had my favorite characterization at the beginning. It's really long, probably the longest outside of Sasami's. -Aki: I picked this next just to get it out of the way (because I severely dislike the character), but I actually really ended up liking her arc too.-Natsuki: Decently short, gives the most insight into your character out of all the arcs.-Mika: Also pretty short, but fine overall story.-Nemu: Middle length, definitely the most unique out of the stories in this game. Not 100% with all the choices they made regarding representing the problems Nemu faces, but at the end of the day it's just a game.-Julie: Middle length, good story for a character that is pretty underwritten. -Sasami: I was kind of disappointed with this act, considering it was locked behind the other six. A fair bit of it is just elements of the other characters' arcs, but overall it was still worth the time. Sasami's act is very much the "canon" version of events, with each other girl's route being a combination of a spotlight into what they're going through (since you focus on Sasami for her arc), and a cheesy love story. Art is great, music is great, voice acting is anime quality (when they're actually reading their lines and not just doing an exclamation).. Aki and Mika are 100% girlfriends. Also this game was worth it entirely just for Mako, everything else was a bonus.. Im a Big fan of love in space. I wasnt really looking forward to this game, but i still bought it just to support them. Im not super far into the game so i cant review to much, but i can say that i am mildly disappointed in the simplicity of the game. Not that i hate normal visual novels, but i was hoping for some more unique mechanics like in sunrider academy. Some form of stats or something like that to give small brakes in the text and add more flavor. It is however, something to hold me over until the next love in space game. Which i can only hope and pray is the conclusion to sunrider. So if you like love in space, buy the game and support the company. they seem to have come a far way since sunrider first came out, and they couldnt have done it without our support. so lets not stop now!Edit:Forget what I said about this just being something to hold me over. I honestly didnt think i would say it, but this is great. Love in Space seems like they have really worked hard on this game, and im loving every minute of it. I should never have doubted them!. Pretty much a perfect mix of story and fan-service. Tons of content. Absolutely worth it. Another spectacular work by Love in Space.. I am not used to buying visual novels that cost more than ten dollars, but this game has completely sold me. Don't ask yourself if its worth the price. If you like storytelling and a little bit of sentimentality, it's easily a great value.. Another great work by Love in Space. I have read all their other VNs (Sunrider series) and this one is the best so far. I have only completed the Mariya route and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The way the characters developed throughout the story kept me interested, even in the side characters as you began to focus on Mariya more. The music was also pretty good and didn't suffer from loop overload. My one quarm is that the voice overs got a bit annoying at times, more so the short ones.Overall the positives outweigh the negatives so I would reccomend this title. It is mature though so I wouldn't reccomend it to anyone under the age of 15.(I'll add more as I go through the different routes)Ciao and have a nice day :3. Finally it came, and i came once played this game ;3. I wanted to make sure I played the entire game before I wrote a review for it, which is why I have 62 hours on it. Er, well, some of it was idling by accident, but that's still a fairly accurate playthough, since I skipped a lot of the dialogue (mostly with H-Scenes). Anyway...Quick review: Is the game good, and worth it? Honestly, if you like Love in Space's stuff, then yes, get it on a sale. Although it lacks the gameplay from Sunrider, I think having it only be a Visual Novel does it justice. However, Love in Space seems to be making an Idol Sim for their next project, which might sate that need. Long Review: Well, when I saw that LiS' next project was going to be about Idols, I honestly didn't care for it. I didn't even REMEMBER the game existed until last december when I got it on sale. But after giving it a shot, I enjoyed it, and definitely got my money's worth out of it. The game has 9 chapters, 6 chapters for each of the girls, two (technically) for Sasami, and the extra chapter for completing Sasami's chapter. (which requires getting the other 6 chapters first... kind of reminds me of Sonic Adventure in that regard) In terms of the chapters... (Spoilers, obvs):I like Mariya's chapter the most. It's cute, and she is best girl. You have a baby with her and it's super wholesome.Under that is Mika's Chapter. It's not all that related to the group for the most part, but Mika is so cute that it was a great read. I would definitely give her headpats for the good route. After that I guess I would say Nemu's. Honestly, with Nemu, I figured it would be much, MUCH more violent (and it is, if you get the bad end) but it's actually really nice and I suprisingly enjoyed it. Her mother, Haruna, is the best character in the game. Unironically wish there was more of her. After that they kinda get "eh." Not bad, but not as good. Sasami's, Aki's, and Natsuki's routes, I mean. Sasami's route comes so late that at this point it's kind of a slog. It's not terrible, and I enjoy how it references the other routes, but having to get the other 6 routes kinda makes it... run-of-the-mill. Aki's was pretty okay, too. But imo, the H-Scenes for her route just felt wrong. That's probably just me. Natsuki's route was, honestly, not bad. It wasn't as serious as the other routes, but I liked it's goofiness. I really don't like Julie's Route. She makes a huge scandal cuz you won't give her the D, and she destroys the group, gets PTSD, then you're back at square one at the end of the route. A complete waste of time, almost. This route was a chore to get through. But really, it boils down to which girl you like the most. Since I like Mariya and Mika the most, of course they're gunna be my favorite routes, and I feel that if you like the girl enough, then you'll enjoy the route. The extra chapter is literally fanservice. Do you like girl on girl action? Then I'm sure you'll enjoy the extra chapter. Speaking of girl-on-girl action, the R18+ patch is a must. Considering sexual contact kind of plays a part in the story, it's kinda necessary.I apologize for the long review. I've been a fan of LiS' stuff since Sunrider Academy came out, and I had a lot to say about it. The game is packed with content, and for a VN it was a fun read, although there were a lot of sections that I got the general gist of so I just kinda skipped it. But you kind of get that with 7 routes. Oh, and if you have Netflix and want to know more about Idols, check out a documentary called "Tokyo Idols." It talks about the crazy stuff fans of idols do and it kinda puts stuff into perspective for the game a bit.
